My name is Michael Matascik, and I appreciate you visiting my portfolio site. Welcome!
Born in western Pennsylvania, I grew up drawing the heroes and villains that inhabit the Marvel universe, much to the chagrin of my high school art teacher. Graduating valedictorian and fascinated with computers—anything with keys really, including the 1950s Royal typewriter my dad brought home from his office—I parlayed my academic success and art-making passion into college scholarships, and I never looked back.
I did this drawing in one of my high school art classes, no doubt when I was supposed to be working on something else.
Over the next 25+ years, I’ve been a mash-up of designer, marketer, leader, writer, and strategist: first at agencies for a dozen years, then at corporate, where I’ve been ever since. Along the way, I've built in-house marketing from scratch three times, recruiting and leading teams in brand, demand generation, events, website, SEO/SEM, social media, paid advertising, PR, and corporate communications.
My philosophy of marketing is rooted in creating the conditions for people to convince themselves, with good design, good data, and good sense. To market with more carrots and fewer sticks, to achieve real growth by joining hands, not twisting arms. And to help people accomplish the jobs that matter most to them—after we earn real trust, real preference, and if we do our jobs right, real love.
